Edward Borein (1873-1945) was born in San Leandro (near San Francisco) and spent his younger years as a true cowboy in California and as a vaquero in Mexico, during which time he almost by osmosis acquired his keen sense of horses, cattle and the deserts. He spent about the last 25 years of his life in Santa Barbara where he had his home and studio and where most of his wonderful etchings were created.
