The poster is imprinted below the image ""Wiliam Matson Roth / Democrat for Governor"". Roth ran for Governor of California in 1974, against Jerry Brown, who won. He was a shipping executive, a special ambassador for trade, a member of the ACLU executive committee and a Regeent for the University of California. He is also credited with the preservation of Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, which he and his mother purchased in 1962, and converted into a retail complex.
