First edition in French. Volumes I and II only of 3.
Paris: Durand, 1767. Illustrated with one large fold out map.

The first edition was published in Madrid in 1757 in three volumes. This natural and civil history of California (before the colonization of Upper California) was originally prepared by Father Venegas but edited and updated by Father Andres Marcos Burriel. The subject had widespread appeal and soon the book was CA retail translated into five languages. Contrary to what Zamorano Eighty states -that none of the translated editions contain any of the plates- this copy has the large folding map. [seeZamorano Eighty, #78, Howes V69 (""aa"")].
