First edition was 1669. i, [i-]xlix,i,[1] 371, [i-vii].
Quarto, full vellum over stiff boards, decorated with gilt rule, spine with gilt and green gilt lettered morocco label, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Covers a little dust soiled, vellum a little dry and has pulled away from front pastedown, frontispiece and title page a little browned; plates a bit browned due to the different type paper and the tissue guards.

Originally Paradise Lost was published in ten Books, Milton re-divided them into twelve in the second edition, and added a few “bridging” verses. This edition contains “Sketch of the Life and Writings of John Milton” by the Rev. John Evans, It also contains a list of subscribers, as well as a one page advertisement for “Paradise Regained” and a “pocket edition of ‘Paradise Lost’.
